Short Distance Travel Information

Policies

  • If the travel is required, the student must be enrolled in that specific course. Additionally, the student must be in good academic and financial standing with the College.
  • Students with adverse disciplinary records may be denied the opportunity to participate at the sole discretion of the College.
  • The ability to meet the physical/mental demands of the activities of the trip (e.g., walk 20 miles a day, carry a 50 lb. pack).
  • Required skills (e.g., swimming, first aid, leadership, teamwork, etc.).

Emergency Procedures

  • Stop and think. Don’t rush judgement decisions. Assess the situation.
  • Leader takes charge and delegates tasks.
  • Individual with highest first aid training/certification performs first aid.
  • Create a calm atmosphere.
  • Designate a recorder. Document everything!

Long Distance Travel Information

Overseas Travel:

Register with Department of State. Provide Consulate contact information.

Policies

  • Appropriate identification and documentation for travel outside the United States (if appropriate).
  • The ability to meet the physical/mental demands of the activities of the trip (e.g., walk 20 miles a day, carry a 50 lb. pack).
  • Required skills (e.g., swimming, first aid, leadership, teamwork, etc.).
  • Immunizations required.
  • Health/accident travel insurance with emergency medical evacuation, trip interruption, and repatriation for out-of-country travel, if appropriate.
  • All students will comply with tour operator and risk management plan policies regarding alcohol consumption. Specifically, students will comply with local regulations regarding the consumption of alcohol and with US laws regarding all other controlled substances.

Emergency Procedures

  • In all situations, the trip leader will take charge and make any decisions necessary for the safety of the group. Depending on the situation, the leader will decide what steps are appropriate, and may include calling for help, going for help, or performing the necessary tasks to improve the situation. Participants in crisis will never be left.
